MICS

The “ open heart surgery” resonates and creates a sort of uncomfortable feeling in the mind of the patient and the relatives.

We have been the pioneers in the field of minimal invasive heart/cardiac surgery (MICS) from the year 2011.

MICS includes use of various small chest incisions which are approximately 5 to 6 cm in length to access the heart and perform the entire surgery.

The main advantage of MICS over traditional surgery is that the central bone of the chest called the sternum is left intact during the surgery.

This reduces pain in the incision, easing the post operative mobility. The patient does NOT have to wear a chest belt. Simple body movements like trusting and turning from side to side or bending etc. are unhindered and gives maximum relief from long post sternotomy pain which can affect approximately 20-30 % of patients after a open heart surgery.

We all know that any bone healing after a fracture takes about 6 to 8 weeks. As we spare the bone in MICS the healing process is also shortened to around 2 to 3 weeks. Hence, recovery from surgery is very fast.

Also, since the bone is not involved in surgery, the risk of deep sternal infections, especially in diabetic patients, is got down to ZERO. This reduces significant cost and the fear of complications.

We have seen early recovery and people generally start doing desk jobs at work within a month of the surgery.

The surgeries which are done in MICS way are:

  • MICS CABG or Bypass
  • MICS Mitral Valve Repair and replacement
  • MICS Aortic Valve Repair and replacement
  • MICS Bentalls
  • MICS Tricuspid Valve Surgery
  • MICS La Myxoma
